Nikoletta joined Hyphen in 2021 to lead a team of in-house engineers, offering MEP (mechanical, electrical and public health) services, initially for clients in the UK and Ireland. With great experience in MEP engineering, Nikoletta has delivered projects from inception to completion in the UK, Cyprus, Spain, Italy and Belgium.
We spoke to our new Head of MEP to find out more…
1. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy swimming, reading, baking, and also cooking for friends.
2. What are you passionate about?
Good design. For me it’s design that provides functionality, efficiency, looks good, but is also environmentally friendly. I’m passionate about combining all this in my designs.
3. Can you tell us about your background?
I studied electrical engineering at the University of Southampton. That’s when I started my career as an engineer.
I worked as a designer, focusing primarily on electrical engineering. I then changed my focus to cover mechanical, electrical and public health project management.
I have helped create co-working spaces across Europe and opened buildings in new markets, especially in Barcelona, Milan and Brussels, working with different code regulations. This was very exciting, new and challenging. But at the end of the day, it was really rewarding.
4. Can you tell us more about your role?
I was brought in as the Head of MEP to start creating a team of mechanical, electrical and public health engineers, to increase our offering to clients. The team helps deliver what the client needs on time and with the Hyphen quality.
Our MEP offering is currently focused on the retail and workspace sectors, on projects that require a fast turnaround.
5. What does this enable us to do more effectively?
The most important benefit of having an MEP offering in-house is the speed that we can deliver to our clients, in our designs and also the quality and coordination that can be done when we’re all sitting under the same roof.
6. Any MEP hot topics?
The biggest topic related to MEP that we should be talking to our clients about is embodied carbon.
Rather than designing based on estimations, we should be designing based on real values and the real demand of the client.
Our MEP team is expanding, with opportunities for enthusiastic and experienced electrical and mechanical engineers to join our growing international architectural practice: https://lnkd.in/gTyV2wTt
