Pioneering the future: Rio AI City secures WAFX Award at WAF 2025

By:

The WAFX Award recognises future projects using architecture to tackle society’s greatest challenges – from climate change to technology and beyond.

We’re proud to announce that Rio AI City has won a WAFX Award in the “Digital Worlds” category at the World Architecture Festival 2025. This latest recognition comes just days after last week’s news that Rio AI City was shortlisted for both the Masterplanning and Infrastructure categories at WAF 2025.

Held annually, the WAFX Awards celebrate ground-breaking future projects that confront critical global issues and seize new opportunities. This year the judges have selected the winners that they believe are all excellent examples of projects that address the big issues facing architecture, society, and the planet.

Rio AI City is recognised for its innovative approach to integrating digital infrastructure with urban life and the natural environment, helping set a new standard for resilient, people-focused, and sustainable cities.

For Hyphen and our partners, Elea Data Centers, this win affirms an approach that sees digital infrastructure not as an add-on, but as an integral part of urban life and the local environment. From day one, the masterplan has focused on adaptability, connection, and long-term value. It balances AI-driven operations with public space, green corridors, and the restoration of the Mata Atlântica ecosystem.

As WAFX winners, we’ll present Rio AI City at the World Architecture Festival 2025 in Miami this November, alongside our shortlisted entries for Rio AI City in the Infrastructure and Masterplanning categories.

Thank you to our team, our partners at Elea Data Centers, and everyone who helped bring this vision to life.
