Hyphen worked with Big Mamma Group to transform an 850 sqm property in Milan’s Brera district into Gloria Osteria, improving how the space operates and addressing longstanding technical constraints.
The building had a difficult history, with previous restaurant occupiers experiencing acoustic issues and complaints from neighbouring residents. Working within this sensitive setting, Hyphen reconfigured the internal layout to improve how the restaurant operates while addressing the technical challenges that had affected the property previously.
This included relocating and redesigning the kitchen and supporting spaces, improving customer circulation, and coordinating acoustic, structural and building services specialists. A key intervention was the redesign and strengthening of the mezzanine, allowing the restaurant to accommodate approximately 227 covers across the ground floor and mezzanine.
Acoustic improvements and upgrades to the ventilation and extraction systems were also important in reducing the impact on the surrounding residential environment. Hyphen’s Milan team coordinated the consultant team and directed construction delivery locally, helping to create a restaurant better equipped to operate successfully within its setting.
