Raymond’s story

Raymond Or joined Hyphen in the beginning of 2023 as senior mechanical engineer.

Primarily based in our London office, Raymond is the newest member of our MEP team, collaborating on luxury retail projects in the UK.

Tell us a bit about your professional background?
I am originally from Hong Kong. Before moving here, I was working in a MEP consultancy firm for over 10 years and gained experience handling various types of projects, like retail, school, residential, commercial, laboratory, and hospital buildings across Asia. I delivered projects in countries like China, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, and Japan.

Tell us about your role?
I joined Hyphen in February 2023 as a senior mechanical engineer. Since then, I have been mainly focusing on the mechanical design and developing  the MEP standards at Hyphen for us to work more effectively.

What projects are you working on?
At the moment, I am working on different retail projects in London, including a jewellery store in Paddington and several stores at New Bond Street. But we don’t just work in London. The MEP team recently worked alongside our architects to complete Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger stores in Caledonia Park, a designer outlet village, in Gretna, Scotland.

Tell us briefly about your experience working in Hyphen’s MEP team…
Hyphen’s MEP team is still quite new, so we need to develop our own design standards. I like that it allows me to refresh my professional experience and knowledge. As this is my first job in the UK, I am gaining UK project management experience and learning about industry practices in this country, including the differences between the UK and Asia.

What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about solving problems and helping people to work more smoothly.

What do you like to do outside of work?
I have two children, so I spend most of my time outside of work playing and exploring the world together with them. I also enjoy visiting new places to experience different cultures and environments.
